Hockey Shooting Tips
If you want to become a better hockey player you should practice Hockey Shooting
Tip's
designed for each shot.
The forehand wrist shot is the most important shot. It's the shot that hockey players learn at a very young age. The most important thing is the weight transfer. The weight transfer is like a lot of other sports, for example baseball and golf. Your weight should transfer from your back side to your front leg. To get into position stand perpendicular to your target with your hockey stick cupped on the puck with the puck behind your back foot. Then try
transferring your weight as you move the puck forward with your stick thru the follow through. As you are sliding the puck forward on the ice, quickly reverse your wrists with a quick snap to make the puck rise above the ice as it sails toward its target. A low or a high follow through will determine how high the puck travels through the air. When you finish your follow through, your hockey stick should be pointing towards your target.
The technique for the backhand wrist-shot is exactly the same as the forehand wrist-shot. The most common problem is that the shooter puts the puck too far in the front of their stance at the start. When you do this, you don't get any power in your shot. Like the forehand wrist-shot, you must cup the puck on your backhand, and bring it back behind you. Lean into the shot and bend your knees to help raise it off the ground. Again, as in the forehand wrist-shot, weight transfer is very important.
Having a good backhand shot can be very useful in deking out the opposition player. If you only have a good forehand shot, you are very easy to defend against as the opponent doesn't have to consider you deking to take a shot on your backhand. They know that you are only good at going to your forehand, so you are easier to defend against.
To create a better deke you should tuck the puck in close to your body to shield the puck from the defender.
The snap shot is a quick-release shot that takes the opposition by surprise. Lets say you are in the high slot area and the puck is
passed out to you from the corner, release your snap shot to get a quick shot to the far side of the net before the goalie has time to cross over to cover your angle. The technique for a snap shot is a quick reverse of the wrists. There is no wind-up at all. Follow through in the direction of the net.
The snap-shot off your wrong foot is a very effective when you can let a shot off quickly. This will allow you to skate towards your target and release the puck in a shot very quickly, surprising the opposition.
The best way to practice this method is to have someone pass the puck to you from the left corner of the rink. You stand in the slot, and take the snap-shot towards the left side of the goal, as the goalie will be still covering the right side of the net.
The slap-shot is one of the least effective shots as it has less accuracy than other shooting methods. It does not have a fast release.
When you shoot the slap shot you should contact the ice one inch or so behind the puck. It is this impact of your stick blade on the ice that causes your stick shaft to bend, giving your shot its zip and power.
The puck should be connect on your stick blade closer to the heel than the toe. As you shoot the puck, the puck will roll up your blade and propel off the toe of your stick. A big wind-up
isn't required when you take a slap-shot. It helps to keep your stick cupped closed in your
back swing, as you do with the wrist-shot. Similar as in the wrist-shot, the height of your follow through will determine how high the puck travels through the air when you shoot it. The most important technique with the slap shot is
your weight transfer. This is where you gain the power in your shot.
In summary, shooting technique is not the same for everyone. It can vary from player to player, and each may still have very good shots. You should try different styles to see what works best for you. Technique is extremely important and if you can improve your strength with proper exercise training this will also help your shooting technique. The most effective way to improve your shot is to practice, practice and more practice. Hockey Shooting Tips
info are a valuable tool for every hockey player.
